Mr James Chalmers VI Dan (Right) started practising Taekwondo in 1978 and since found a love for the martial art. He opened Firhill Taekwondo in 1995 as his own school, where he would train hundreds of students, who respected him for the excellent instructor he was.

Throughout the years, Mr Chalmers has helped many students reach high ranks within Taekwondo. He helped students see that Taekwondo is more than just a class you turn up to; he helped express that it is an art of kicking and punching. Mr Chalmers emphasised the importance of etiquette within the art and always made sure his students observed and followed the five tenets of Taekwondo.

After practicing Taekwondo for over 44 years, Mr Chalmers retired from the art in 2022 as a sincerely well-respected instructor and practitioner.  It is our goal to continue on striving as a school and to help people discover Taekwondo for the amazing art it is.

On July 3rd 2024, Mr Thomas Boyle III Dan took over as the instructor of Firhill Taekwondo. After having trained under Mr Chalmers since the age of 7 (now 21), he wanted to continue Mr Chalmers teaching, having the same influence he had on him over the previous 14 years,

Mr Boyle in younger years won Multiple Scottish championship medals in patterns, sparring and special technique. At the age of 11, he was promoted to 1st degree black belt, under the watchful eyes of First Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha. At the age of 14, he was promoted to the rank of 2nd degree black belt, again graded under First Grand Master Rhee.

Mr Boyle has a goal to promote Taekwondo for what it is really about. He wants to teach with discipline, reinforcing true Taekwondo etiquette by teaching the tenets to all students. He found that learning these tenets from such a young age has had a huge impact on his later years, where he used them to persevere through a ma in Mechanical Engineering.
